    detergent molecules have a hydrophilic (water loving) and a hydrophobic (water hating) end. So I think, when your finger touches the surface, the hydrophobic ends of those molecules attach to the pepper as they radiate out from where they entered the bowl, like a drop of water. Why exactly the pepper moves to the side of the bowl, I’m not sure… and I wonder if it would work with other things, like chilli flakes instead of pepper? interesting :)

    i think it has to do wth the surface tension of water
    the liquid soup (or detergent) breacks tath barrier and has something to do with the pepper going to the edge of the bol

    put pepper over the water surface so that its on top
    then ask your friend to put their finger inside the bowl
    then without them knowing put dishwashing soap on your finger and put your finger in the bowl
